Facebook ads low impressions: causes and fixes
Troubleshooting guide · 2 min read · Updated 2026-10-21 · By the Cofoundr team
Low impressions usually come from one of: a budget too small, an audience too narrow, a bid or cost cap set too low, an ad still in review, or an ad set stuck in learning. Check delivery status first, then budget against the cost of a result, then audience size and caps.
Impressions are the starting point of every other number, so when they are low, nothing else can work. The cause is nearly always a limit you set, not a fault in the platform. Work through the checks in order.
1. Delivery status
Look at the ad set and ad delivery column. In review, rejected, learning, limited and scheduled all show different reasons. See ads not delivering.
2. Budget
- A very small daily budget against a high cost per result may buy few impressions.
- A campaign budget shared across ad sets can leave some ad sets with very little.
- Compare the budget with what you expect to pay for a thousand impressions in this account.
3. Audience size
A narrow audience limits reach, especially with many exclusions. See audience too small.
4. Bid and cost controls
A bid cap or cost cap below the going price wins few auctions. Test a looser cap, or none. See bid cap not working.
5. Creative and relevance
Ads people ignore or hide can get less delivery over time. Check the quality diagnostics and refresh weak creative. See low quality ranking.
6. Learning and edits
Heavy edits can restart learning and slow delivery. Batch changes and give the ad set time. See learning limited.
How Cofoundr helps
Cofoundr alerts when an active campaign stops delivering, and warns about underspend against the daily budget, so a quiet ad set is noticed the same day. The morning view lists accounts where spend or delivery looks off.
Frequently asked questions
Why are my Facebook ads getting no impressions?
Check delivery status, review, payment and the schedule first. Then budget, audience size and any bid or cost cap.
How many impressions should my ad get?
It depends on budget and what reaching your audience costs. Compare with the account's own history.
Can a small audience cause low impressions?
Yes. A narrow audience, especially with many exclusions, limits how far delivery can go.
