Using AI to draft ad copy variants, with a review workflow
Workflow · 2 min read · Updated 2026-10-06 · By the Cofoundr team
Use AI to widen your options, not to decide. Give it the offer, audience, tone and banned claims, ask for variants in a fixed format, then review each for accuracy, policy and brand fit before anything goes live. Test a few at a time.
AI is quick at producing ten angles on an offer. It is also quick at producing claims you cannot make. A short brief and a firm review step give you the speed without the risk, and keep the final judgement with a person who knows the client.
Write a proper brief
- The product, the offer and the single action you want.
- The audience and their main problem.
- Tone of voice, with two or three examples of copy the client likes.
- Claims you can make, with proof, and claims you must never make.
- Character limits and the format you need.
Ask for a fixed structure
Request each variant as headline, primary text and call to action, with a one-line note on the angle. A fixed format makes variants easy to compare and paste into the ads.
The review checklist
- Accuracy: is every claim true and supportable?
- Policy: does it respect Meta's advertising standards? Be especially careful in areas such as health, finance and before-and-after claims, and check the current rules.
- Brand: does it sound like the client?
- Clarity: is the offer and the next step obvious?
- Local fit: right language, spelling and cultural references.
Test sensibly
- Launch a few variants, not twenty.
- Change one thing at a time so you can learn from the result.
- Give each test enough time and budget to say something.
- Write down what you learned and keep it for the next brief.
Use data to brief the AI
Tell the AI which ads worked and where viewers dropped off, so its drafts build on evidence. Creative Diagnostics in Cofoundr scores your top ads by hook rate, hold rate and click-through and says where viewers leave. See hook rate and hold rate.

Can AI-written ads be used as they are?
Treat them as drafts. A person should check claims, policy and brand fit before anything is published.
How many variants should I test?
A small number, with one variable changed at a time, so each result teaches you something.
Does Meta allow AI-written ad copy?
Ads must follow Meta's advertising standards however they are written. Check the current policies, and remember you are responsible for the claims.
