How to give an agency access to your Facebook ad account
How-to guide · 2 min read · Updated 2026-10-21 · By the Cofoundr team
Share the ad account with the agency as a partner, using the agency's Business Manager ID, and give only the permissions they need. Do not share your personal login. You stay the owner and can remove access at any time.
If you are a business owner hiring an agency, the safest way to let them run your ads is partner access. The agency gets the access they need through their own business account, and you keep ownership of the ad account, the payment method and the pixel. Menu names change often, so follow Meta's current help page if a label differs from the one below.
Before you start
- Ask the agency for their Business Manager (Meta Business Portfolio) ID. You will need the number, not their email.
- Make sure you are an admin of your own business account and that the ad account sits inside it.
- Decide which assets the agency needs: the ad account, the Facebook Page, the pixel or dataset, and sometimes an Instagram account.
Steps to share the ad account
- Open Meta Business Settings (Business Suite or Business Manager, depending on what you use).
- Go to Accounts, then Ad Accounts, and select the account you want to share.
- Choose Assign partners or Add partner, then enter the agency's business ID.
- Pick the permission level. Most agencies need to manage campaigns and view performance. Only add full control of the account if you agreed to it.
- Repeat for the Page, the pixel or dataset, and any Instagram account the ads will use.
- Tell the agency to accept or confirm on their side, and ask them to check they can see the account.
Which permissions to give
Give the least that lets the agency do the agreed job. Managing campaigns and viewing performance is enough for day-to-day work. Billing and payment settings can stay with you. If you are unsure, start with the smaller set and widen it later.
What not to do
- Do not share your personal Facebook password or let anyone log in as you.
- Do not move the ad account into the agency's business. Keep ownership with you.
- Do not leave old agencies with access. Review the partner list when a contract ends.
How to remove access later
Return to Ad Accounts in Business Settings, open the partners list for the account and remove the agency. Do the same for the Page and pixel. Removal is yours to do at any time.
If something does not match
Meta changes this screen from time to time. Use Meta's help page on sharing ad accounts with partners for the current steps, and check which of your assets the agency can see afterwards.
For agencies: make it easy for clients
Send clients your business ID and a short checklist of what to share. The agency client onboarding checklist covers it. Once accounts are shared, Cofoundr connects through Meta's standard login and puts the accounts in one view.
